At this point, the ownCloud directory structure has become somewhat confusing to me, so I'll just leave it here.

This one should be relatively simple, given that it matches the original pretty closely. I'd also say we should use the original's video track, because it's of better quality and we have the lyrics on-screen anyway.

I impale my head with a rose.
The blood should go well with my hooficure
I'm really sad I don't have friends
I'll fill the void with mannequins.
Holy crap I didn't know my eyes could glow.

A rupee from Legend of Zelda.
Now I will sit and talk to my reflections.
Can't you see that I'm depressed?
Please Twilight give it a rest.
Camera cut while I strike a dramatic pose.

My rose was red how'd it turn pink?
Now I'm mad so KICK the apples!
Then I teleport to the right.
Caress the mannequin sing some more I hate this hat,
so I will laser beam it DEAD!!!
Suddenly an opera.
This song gives me vertigo.
animation error with my eyes.

Ignore all the tunnels
We will find some other way.
STOP! Never mind just keep on running.
I will use my pony powers to dilate my eyes.
This place looks a lot like Gringots Bank.
I'm too weak to push the cart....Why won't Twilight help me now?
We're going to die.
I should have thought this through.

Finally the moment has arrived...
To show two clips at the same time.

I can leap real far.
THAT WALL IS SUPER SPARKLY!!!
sing a high note and then-

Black...it's all black...HahahahSNORThaha!

Why is this world that is yearning
For love so easily thrown?
Why is your heart that is hurting
So twisted and wickedly so
The darkness is coming
To bid on your soul
You can't let it win now,
You're stronger, you know?

Just give me your hearts, dears
I'll make them anew
Lay down your crosses and bows
Come toward the light now
Just push through the rain
Love is in bloom and love
Will vanquish the pain
We'll vanquish the pain

Why is this soul that is suffering
Refusing my comforting touch?
Why do they taunt me and scorn me
When I'm just the one they should trust
The darkness is coming
To bid on your soul
You can't let it win though
You're stronger, you know

Just give me your hearts, dears
I'll make them anew
Lay down your crosses and bows
Come toward the light now
Just push through the rain
Love is in bloom and love
Will vanquish the pain
We'll vanquish the pain

Heartache's consuming
A dangerous foe
Its freezing embrace
Will smother all hope
But don't let it trap you
Tear down the walls
Never stop yearning
For love's gentle call

Give me your hearts, dears
I'll make them anew
Lay down your crosses and bows
Come toward the light now
Just push through the rain
Love is in bloom and love
Will vanquish the pain

I'm on it. On a related note, does anyone want to try "What my cutie mark is telling me"?
#145
Just started working on it.

It's got a low quality audio and video file, has the standard MLP cover and no background, and both the notes and the filenames lack our standard formating, but the song part should be sound. I've placed it on the FTP-server, but you can remove it now.

EDIT: An updated, version is up for grabs in the ownCloud folder.

From the "Bronies" documentary's ending credits roll. Got a hold of a (low quality) MP3. Will start to work on it soon.

EDIT: Could you help me with the lyrics? What's the line after "I hear your heart and your song"?

Couldn't find a combined audio source, so I went with seperate entries for the cheery and stressed-out (eg. reprise) passages.

Thoughts on this song: One of my favourites from Season 1 in the original, the cheery part is consistently good, with both sound and text. It's the reprise where it goes downhill. The singing quality is less consistent, and the less we talk about the speaking voice actors, the better. It's especially jarring when Rarity's speaking VA takes over for the "Fluttershy, you're putting me in a bind" part. Also, the translation becomes unfaithful to the source in a way that's unholy. During the before mentioned part she's outright rude, telling Fluttershy to shut up (that bears repeating: telling FLUTTERSHY to shut up) and Dashie that she's an airhead.
But the worst part is the ending, starting in the original with "All we ever want...". The whole passive-aggressive angle is downplayed to the point where "make sure that it stays within our budget" becomes "nevermind, we can always pay you more" and Rarity's steady descent into a nervous breakdown is totally removed.

Sorry for my rambling, I just had to get this off my chest. Now off to do At the Gala.

Yeah, I'm churning these out right now. Here you go.
#151
Another one done.
This one's taken a few liberties with both the text and the pitches, but it works quite well.
#152
Here you go. The Hungarian songs are a mediocre highlight to an otherwise atrocious dub. It makes us all appreciate the outstanding English dubs all the more.
#153
Here you go. I've put it into Dropbox, too.

Here ya go: http://ul.to/brt0zv6j
Unfortunately, the video de-synced for me pretty bad (I have one with the interlude), so I just left it out.
I chose this song to do first (others may follow as I have time) because the original was my first Ultrastar song, and I like both Fluttershy and Sweetie Belle.
Anyway, praise and criticism is welcome.

I wanted to have a thread open on this song. I'm not sure I'll have the time to make it within the next week or two... heck I might not get around to it this year, but I'll try my very best. If someone else beats me to it, I'll hold no grudges.
On a sidenote, the episode is a few hours old and there are already remixes on Youtube.

Working on this one.

This thread details all you'll need to build an Ultrastar song from scratch.
First, your software:
Media Monkey (or any software that can check bitrates)
Sobolsoft VBR to CBR converter (or similar)
Ultrastar Song Creator or USC
Ultrastar Deluxe or USDX
All available free-of-charge.

What you'll need to find:
an MP3 of the song you want to convert
its lyrics
optionally, images for background and cover
a music video, preferably in 720p.

First, start up Media Monkey and load up the MP3. Rightclick on the song and select Properties, as seen here:

Choose the Details tab and look for the VBR infobox, highlighted in red here:

You want this to read "No". VBR stands for Variable Bit Rate. Good for sound quality, bad for working with karaoke games.
If it reads "Yes", use the converter. That one's pretty straightforward, you just need to move the registration banner out of the way if you use the trial version.

Once this is done, open up USC and load your MP3. This view will greet you:

Left is the header information. The program will read in every information provided by the MP3, so Artist and Title will mostly be carried over automatically. You should put your own name under Creator. BPM and Gap will be determined automatically. You don't need to concern yourself with the rest, we will do that during our quality check.
Delete the stuff from the "Song lyrics" window and copy in your lyrics.
First things first, you should check if your lines are well spaced. Sometimes, lyrics found online have awkward linebreaks.
Next, play the song and check word for word if the written lyrics match the song. Some transcripts have added, removed or changed words. It's mostly an oversight, but you will want all words to fit correctly.
Now to break up the words to syllables. USC recognizes seperate words as such, but longer words will have several notes and (potentially) pitches associated with them. You have to do this manually, by entering a + into the words.
If you have spoken words in your song (like, say, Rarity's barter with her friends in "Art of the Dress"), you can choose whether or not to split those up.
There may also be words with elongated notes, were one syllable is repeated with multiple pitches.
My demo song, Gypsy Bard, doesn't have these, so I'll borrow the line "And I will brighten up your day" from the Smile Song. Now if you sing it, you'll realize that the word "day" has 4 different pitches. You have two ways of displaying those in karaoke:
a) By doubling the vowel and linking it with a "-", making it "da-a-a-ay" in our example. Note that you'll have to put +-s there as well, making it "da+-a+-a+-ay"
b) By writing out the syllable, then adding a ~ for every additional pitch, so "day+~+~+~".

This becomes awkward when it's in the middle of a word, like in the last (sung) word of the Crystal Fair Song, where it becomes "his+to+~+ry", or in the finished game, "histo~ry"
The end results should look something like this:

Once everything's in place, start the song and lyrics with the play button highlighted in red.
Click the Tap button or press the Space Bar everytime a syllable plays. You don't need to be completely accurate; this just forms a rough outline that you'll use in USDX.
If the song's too fast for you, you can adjust the Playback Speed in the Misc. Settings menu.
If you miss a note or are too early on one, you can hit the rewind button and/or use the playback slider. Just don't overuse it, as it can lead to incorrectly placed linebreaks. You can correct those later, though.
When you're done, you can save the tapping in a .txt file with the floppy icon highlighted in blue. This will create an "*Artist* - *Title*.txt" in the same folder as the mp3.

Most songs have been created using, and optimized for Ultrastar Deluxe 1.1. They should work with other karaoke programs (Performous, Vocaluxe, Ultrastar, Ultrastar CMD) as well, but there might be slight errors.
If you want to report a faulty song, please post the song's title and a short, 1-4 word description of your error in the topic subject.
Also, please provide your OS, your general system specifications (CPU speed, graphics card, sound card, etc.) and the karaoke program you are using. We'll do our best to fix any issues as soon as possible, but give us a day or two, anyway.

Have fun singing!

I decided to go with the EuroChaos Mix because it's more melodious, the text is better understandable (LivingTombstone's is swallowed by the beat) and it's a bit slower. On the downside, it doesn't have a snazzy video and it's got longer interludes without text.
I've sent a permission request on Odyssey's YouTube account. I'd rather not release it until I get an answer, but you can take a peek.

EDIT: Added Golden Notes.

Pinkie's Counter / Pony Character Quiz
August 21, 2012, 02:17:17 PM
Based on the official group shot posters:
Season 1
Season 2

I had to LOL when I saw the MMMystery "antagonists" in their Pinkie dream sequence costumes, Granny Smith with her army helmet and Vinyl and 'Tavi's antics on the Season 2 pic.

Issues and bug reports / Fair use/IP policy
August 16, 2012, 07:13:28 AM
After someone at Galacon used some of my songs (among others) for their karaoke booth (here's a rant about it, if you care), I started wondering if we should have some kinda unified policy about our releases. Until we go live with our project, I'd still like to release my songs at Bronies.de; they were the first community to recognize my work. I would like to use the HQ vids and audio in that case, if that's OK with everyone. I won't "leak" any songs made by others, though. We can just link them to our DL site once we're live, of course.
I also had the idea that we could go for some kind of product identity. The plug in the .txt files is nice, but most people will never see that. I thought maybe a logo in the corner of the cover picture, or something similar.
I'm probably going a bit nuts about it, but I guess this is what it feels like to have intellectual property that's starting a life of its own.

Dibs!  ;D
Got the MP3 and video from here. If someone has a better one, let me know.
