Pinkie's Counter / Super Derpy: Muffin Attack
September 23, 2012, 09:17:29 PM
I figured out that this is a place for general, off-topic discussion. I hope a small ad for my project is ok - if it's not, feel free to remove this topic.

Hello everypony! :)

I'm dos and I'm an author of Super Derpy: Muffin Attack game.

http://www.superderpy.com/

Super Derpy: Muffin Attack is an free software game available on Windows, Linux and (soon) Mac OS X. At the moment it's simple arcade game with flying Derpy avoiding obstacles, but that's just early stage in game development. At the final release it's supposed to be full featured adventure providing few different game modes, with Derpy rescuing mane six ponies from being trapped by muffinzombies - vicious creatures created by Discord in order to bring chaos to Equestria, so he can escape from rock and rule it once again.

Super Derpy originated from a small university project, but now plenty of people are already involved in it - some of them already known in brony community. Character animations are done by Yudhaikeledai (http://yudhaikeledai.deviantart.com/), author of MLP: Thinking with Portals series. Voices are provided by MEMJ0123 (http://www.youtube.com/user/MEMJ0123) as Princess Celestia (story teller) and Meredith Sims (http://www.youtube.com/Emichwan88) as Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle. Both of them are part of Silly Filly Studios (http://www.youtube.com/user/SillyFillyStudios) and Meredith is also known as Twilight Sparkle from MLP: Fighting is Magic. Game includes music from Dr Dissonance (http://dr-dissonance.tumblr.com/) and Claire Anne Carr (http://claireannecarr.bandcamp.com/) and the latter - author of My Little PonY Rock! albums - will create original soundtrack for the upcoming levels in the game.

(I've created text files for one of Claire's song, and second one is WIP - you can find both in WIP section on this forum)

The first pre-alpha version (called Development Preview) is already available to download (http://www.superderpy.com/download/)

I hope you'll like it! :)

Will do text file in a day or two.

[edit]

WIP text file. Pitches should be ok (but I'm not sure yet in one place), timing should be mostly (but not always) ok, but note durations aren't touched at all yet.

Performous uses "notes - alt.txt" file instead of "notes.txt", and "notes - alt.txt" tries to load Song.mp3 file, which doesn't exist (song.mp3 is not the same file - most of file systems on GNU/Linux are case sensitive). Changing extension of "notes - alt.txt" file fixes this problem - Performous loads "notes.txt", which has correct "song.mp3" file specified.

Buuuuut... "notes.txt" has some terrible synchronization issues, clearly audible with Performous' synth mode, so I suggest fixing song file name in "notes - alt.txt".

[edit]
I was wrong, both files are available in song selection screen. Still, without any modifications, one is out of sync, and another one doesn't load at all ;)

Performous seems to have some trouble with negative value of first note in Picture Perfect Pony. The song plays, but it's "unplayable" - there's no lyrics on screen and game doesn't register any notes from microphones.

Shortening the note by changing first line of songs.txt to: "F 0 4 7 There's" fixes this problem, but I guess a cleaner solution would be to reduce the gap and shift all notes by three beats left, so the first note wouldn't be shortened and it would still start at 0.
