Well, that escalated quickly...

I just wanted to do a short lookup of the file and suddenly two hours have passed :o

In this latest (maybe final?) version I assigned golden notes and widened the gaps between some notes.
I realized that
a) during singing you sometimes have to take breaks between words even though it does not sound like it at first and
b) notes for syllables that end in silent consonants have to be shortened significantly

In the FAQ for the USDX editor it says that the golden notes should account for between 1000 and 2500 points. I am not sure how to deduce this from note length but I reached about 1000 points during singing when hitting almost all of my assigned golden notes. Maybe some more can be added.

@Renard: Any feedback from the artist about the background formatted for 1920x1080?

Excellent guide, you beat me to it. As profpatsch said, this will be a great help for any beginners. It would have saved me a lot of work  :-\

I tried Composer and UltraTools Editor for fine-tuning the notes and really have to say that the on-board editor in USDX is superior in terms of setting the position and length of the notes. The positioning of line breaks, however, is problematic (as you pointed out). For this, I prefer UtraTools Editor over manually editing the TXT file.

What do you think of including a mention of the USDX documentation file in your writeup ("documentation.pdf" in the USDX installation directory)?
It is not mentioned "inside" USDX and no link is put in the start menu folder of USDX in Windows, so it might well be overlooked by someone who is looking for even more information.

Enough writing now, let's get back to singing ;D

I reviewed the file again today and made a lot of relevant tweaks. Now the notes not only match the vocals but the lengths and pauses have been adjusted to make sure a singer (me) can actually sing what is on screen.

The on-board editor of USDX is really good to fine tune the arrangement rather than switching to a separate program.

@Renard: How exactly is the procedure here? Does someone declare a track "finished" at some point? Is there some kind of "quality control"? :)

Energetic rock vocal track with an earworm-inducing melody and happy mood giving a wink at the "shipping" part of the fandom.

Soft and soothing with a hint at Beatles songs. Might have a little too much instrumental content for a Karaoke track.

Rock song about the Great and Powerful Trixie. Great party piece with a driving beat.

Excellent and challenging vocal track. I think it would be a good addition by a brony musician.

EDIT 1 2012-09-17: I started working on the file in composer. Timing the syllables is the lesser problem but my musical hearing is REALLY bad. I cannot match the song notes to those on the keyboard. I can offer the prearranged file so that someone (somepony?) with a better musical background can assign the notes.

EDIT 2 2012-09-18: Did approx. 4 hours of work in Composer. Final result was a totally mangled txt file that was unusable. Read the forum entries again, especially the one called "my workflow" by profpatsch http://ps3linux.fr/mlpkar/index.php?topic=106.0 (thanks, man!).

Switched to using UltraStar Song Creator for a first rough timing and UltraTools Editor for the finer tuning. Discovered the "synth" feature in Ultratools Editor. Now I was even able to assign the correct notes/pitch :) ! Successful test of the first verse in USDX. Would continue working after 11 pm but tomorrow morning brings an important meeting at the office (darn it).

Expect to see a first usable draft in the next days.

Any suggestions for background/cover art? The image used for the youtube video unfortunately has the wrong aspect ratio for background when downloaded from the artist's deviantArt page http://naboolars.deviantart.com/art/The-Dark-Side-of-the-Moon-260018381. Could someone edit this to fit the requirements for USDX?
