QuoteThree months of winter coolness
And awesome holidays
We've kept our hoovsies warm at home
Time off from work to play

But the food we've stored is running out
And we can't grow in this cold
And even though I love my boots
This fashion's getting old

A true, true friend helps a friend in need
A friend will be there to help you see
A true, true friend helps a friend in need
To see the light that shines from a true, true friend

The time has come to welcome spring
And all things warm and green
But it's also time to say goodbye
It's winter we must clean
We move the clouds
And we melt the white snow
When the sun comes up
Its warmth and beauty will glow

A true, true friend helps a friend in need
(Winter wrap up, winter wrap up)
A friend will be there to help them see
(Winter wrap up, winter wrap up)
A true, true friend helps a friend in need
('Cause tomorrow spring is here)
To see the light that shines from a true, true friend

Little critters hibernate
Under the snow and ice
We must wake up all their sleepy heads
So quietly and nice
We help them gather up their food
Fix their homes below
We welcome back the southern birds
So their families can grow

A true, true friend helps a friend in need
(Winter wrap up, winter wrap up)
A friend will be there to help them see
(Winter wrap up, winter wrap up)
A true, true friend helps a friend in need
('Cause tomorrow spring is here)
To see the light that shines from a true, true friend

Now that I know what they all do
I have to find my place
And help with all of my heart
Tough task ahead I face

How will I do without my magic?
Help the earth pony way
I wanna belong so I must
Do my best today
Do my best today!

A true, true friend helps a friend in need
(Winter wrap up, winter wrap up)
A friend will be there to help them see
(Winter wrap up, winter wrap up)
A true, true friend helps a friend in need
('Cause tomorrow spring is here)
To see the light (To see the light)
That shines (That shines)
From a true, true friend
'Cause tomorrow spring is here
'Cause tomorrow spring is here
'Cause tomorrow spring is here!

Might as well start working on this, now that the soundtrack's out. A duet version is definitely in order.
Solo version is all but done, save for BG artwork (and maybe a different cover). Although I haven't checked it thoroughly after changing the mp3 file, and there might be more mistakes noticeable with the vocalref file. Too tired to give it another look right now scratch that, the power of coffee compels me

I'll also try to get a tentative attempt at a duet done. Still not quite sure how to best split the lines, but a male vs female distinction seems better than lead vs backing vocals.

Ew, looks like iTunes is cropping episodes again. How is it even possible to mess up so badly that the resolution becomes 1888x1080?

edit: Oops, I didn't intend to upload the video, only noticed it now. (I tend to re-encode my local copies of the videos, so as to obtain 1080p files.) Might as well keep it, I guess. The video is cropped a bit (1888x1062) because of the freaky resolution.
Also, I had to (losslessly) cut 0.68 0.78 seconds (better lip sync) of silence from the start of the mp3's, so that the video begins at the first frame of the door shot. Adjusted gaps accordingly.

Did some fixes on this song; more BPM, more vocal variation, a lot fewer golden notes, higher quality (soundtrack) audio for the extended version.
#4
Could we include all the scenes* separately, by using START and END tags? There would be no need for separate mp3 files, but does this work in all game engines? And does it clutter the song selection too much?

*except the instrumental one, of course. And maybe the prelude, there's not much to sing.
#5
Actually you did everything correctly. :) Looks like the problem's in the song file. I imagine we'll upload a fix shortly.

The problem is the missing "P1" line in duet.txt:
#COMMENT:http://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/
#UPDATED:02-apr-2015
P1
: 0 10 -2 Life
: 16 6 0  is
: 24 4 -2  a
: 31 12 0  run
: 48 34 2 way

EDIT: Oh, and somemod might want to move this thread into bug reports.

I checked files I've done, to see what instrumentals can be removed from the online scoreboard:
- Looks like Princess of the Night and Discord (TLT Remix) were updated without updating the instrumentals. Destabilize had the same problem, fixed that before.
- Aviators - Friendship: vocal version is remastered, and doesn't match the instrumental audio.

In other news, I put a trimmed version of Sombra's Door audio to fixes (the same one that was supposed to be in the previous update) – I still think there's too much silence before the song starts (and ends). Oh, and also a reminder file so that the mp3 won't be accidentally removed. Update the .mlk if you wish, though it's not necessary.
#7
Uploaded new instrumental.txt to Fixes. I noticed that the vocal track and instrumental don't match. Apparently notes.txt was updated without changing the instrumental.

Moar musics from All Levels at Once. Have a remix/translation of the Italian opening.

QuoteIn un mondo splendido
Colorato e magico
Little ponies vivono
(In) pace (e) sempre in armonia

In a colorful magical land
Filled with beauty, isn't it grand?
Little ponies live peacefully, and
Harmony won't ever end

They make the sun shine splendidly
And keep the land safe from foes of harmony
The joy they spread will make your day
When you pass them by

//Chorus
Go take flight, my little pony!
No need to be lonely
You'll make it I promise
Listen close, while we're together
We'll build up our friendships
Through all kinds of weather

//Chorus

Don't you stop!
My little pony, if you want to make friends
Then come here where it's sunny
Come here where it's sunny! (×3)

//Chorus

I think this one has spent long enough in the requests :D Working on it done.

Couldn't find a high quality instrumental - MLP Music Archive has only a 128 kbps one.

Song requests / Re: Bulletproof by Aviators

This is a terrific song. It's a shame it's not pony-related, because otherwise I'd be inclined to work on it.

Of course, one could argue that few of Aviators' songs explicitly mention ponies, but this one clearly draws inspiration from V for Vendetta.

Quote from: Renard on February 04, 2015, 07:26:09 PMFix uploaded (as a gap fix: #GAP:27217). The mp3 file still has some silence at the beginning, so I'm guess the incorrect version of it has been used.
Yeah, I did cut a couple seconds of silence from the song beginning, but apparently the new mp3 didn't make it to the update. I thought that a better solution than using a #START tag.

List of small changes (uploaded to cloud):

  • 22 Feb: Background of 4everfreebrony - Three's a Team was corrupted.
  • 16 Mar: Reworked StormWolf's The Beginning of Order. (not really a quick fix but nvm) Also converted the audio files to CBR.
  • 18 Mar: Added golden notes to SlyphStorm's Soldiers of the Night.

Just popping in to say I'm glad you've introduced this project :D I think more people should certainly focus their efforts on fixing old songs - I've come across some songs so off that they weren't even fun to sing. Well, those were all community songs (I'm looking at you, Vicious Lies). The official songs are generally very good, but of course checking them takes top priority.

First suggestion: A spreadsheet in Drive, or something like that, would be far easier if/when others join in. I know I could play my part :) or you could tell me that my songfiles suck and I shouldn't be allowed near QA ever again. that's fine too

Secondly, it might be a good idea to have a list of little technicalities to look out for, since the plan is to go systematically over all the songs and make them the best they can be. Fixing these while we're at it would save time, and nobody would have to look at the files ever again. For example,

  • removing punctuation (mainly commas, semicolons) from line endings
  • capitalising words that start a line
  • changing British to American spelling
  • consistently using "~"'s or "-a"'s throughout the songs
  • doubling the BPM if it's way too low for the song
Feel free to tell me if it's just useless nitpicking, though.

On an unrelated note, if the task feels daunting, revel in the knowledge that the songs are already far better quality than some official SingStar ones I've seen. Sometimes they feel like having been done by monkeys with typewriters.

If anyone's wondering, I took the background image from Let's Have a Battle and moved it to this song. It fits the events of the movie better.

What's the encoding being used for community videos? I've been using (per the post above)
ffmpeg -y -i original.avi -c:v libx264 -preset veryslow -pass 1 -b:v 2M -pix_fmt +yuv420p -an -f mp4 /dev/null && \
ffmpeg    -i original.avi -c:v libx264 -preset veryslow -pass 2 -b:v 2M -pix_fmt +yuv420p -an video.mp4

because I think that's the format official songs use.

I just noticed now that most community videos seem to have an ~1 Mbps bitrate, so is there any recommended bitrate for those? Assuming, of course, not being restricted by the source quality.

I think the first note could start 2-3 beats later. It's not ideal, but cutting a note short is acceptable. That's what we do all the time to make time for linebreaks, anyway.

Smilley's suggestion just needs a lossless mp3 editor and a #videogap, and I think I'll do that for my local files. But I agree, it's not worth pushing a new mp3 in an update.

(Anyone else tried a negative #start?)

This has been used in some commercials, so it's kinda half-official.
It's also the /mlp/ anthem and not catchy at all oh god get it out of my head

Hey Renard, did you mean to remove the video from Fixes, or did it just get caught in the crossfire of deleting redundant files? (same goes for Princess of the Night)

Now, I understand if you want to keep the filesize of fixes as small as possible. After all the old video kind of works (although it does show a black screen for a minute at the end...) Just thought I'd ask before I start figuring out the videogap for the old vid.
#18
Fixed:
- Princess of the Night: Video was out of sync and had black screen at beginning. It's a short video, so I thought it best to re-do it. Corrected "freight" → "fright".
- Sombra's Door: Doubled BPM. Corrected BG filename, removed text from BG and added it to cover. Cut a few seconds of silence from mp3 start and end (losslessly). Corrected "I've never have" → "I never have".
- The Super Duper Party Pony: Fixed encoding problem at "piñatas".
- Added #EDITION tag to Fluttershys.

Not fixed:
- Luna (Alt Mode): the instrumental needs exactly 1000 ms smaller gap. Didn't fix, because the song could also use general improvement.

Someone requested this from me a long time ago irl, and I think I promised to do it. So I'll get on it in the coming days.
Nothing wrong with trash metal in karaoke! I mean, it's still cleaner than Breaking Bonds.

Done! First time I used "thi-is sty-yle" instead of tildes (~). I wonder how that went, I know next to nothing about English syllabication.
#20
So about "corrected.mp4" in WIP/Fixes... Is there any difference to the original other than cutting a few seconds from the end? If not, I don't see the point in updating the video - especially since USDX ends songs when the mp3 ends, regardless of video length.

(Also, from the whopping 25% increase in filesize, I'd assume the edit hasn't been lossless.)
