The multiple words really where necessary because it was so fast.

Ah, and the line clipping theoretically shouldn't happen, because I didn't even use Composer.

My workflow (of which I am really, REALLY proud ;) ):
1. Open up UltraStar Creator.
2. Fill in the tags.
3. Insert lyrics and split into syllables
4. Confirm bpm with a tapping tool (It said 370bpm while the song actually is 140bpm, 280 in the file)
5. Tap that thing (If to fast set speed to 50–75%, sounds funny but works like a charm (except for that rap, crazy fast))
6. Set the basic pitch to the one that appears most often (saves work later)
6. Open up in USDX, fine-tune GAP if necessary, double-check bpm at the end of song (could be frustrating otherwise)
7. Beat match
8. Pitch (you can use a piano and/or the Practice option in Performous)
9. Check in Performous with Ctrl+S, very easy to notice timing and pitch mistakes.
10. Singing test
11. If it's very off, pause Performous before the song ends and use Ctrl+arrow keys to go forward/backward
12. Correct the mistakes you see visually in Performous (your voice pitch), switching between Pf and USDX. I love my workspaces on Linux so much, on Windows you have to alt-tab. Tip: Use a lightweight desktop, like Gnome 2 w/o effects or KDE.

About the vid: It's a simple YT 1080p vid.
Avidemux says: H264, 30FPS, mp4.
On my laptop it runs like a charm, it simply uses a lot of processor. But it's never out of sync.
I guess that's one of the biggest "disadvantages" of Linux. Because everything simply runs you don't see that others could have problems with the same stuff you think is normal. Same with Firefox and IE.

Ok, I fixed a lot of timings and when I sang it after that, I instantly got A LOT more perfect timings than before. Try it.
The funny thing in music is that simple and strict is oftentimes way better than complicated.

i'm on Ubuntu, maybe something with midi-synthesis.

So, I'm going through BBFFF and I notice one thing: You use way too many irregular note-lengths (bar that begin one 1/16 earlier etc.) but the song itself is really straightforward 4/4. In 90% of the time you can use simple qarter notes and it is perfect. Bear in mind that the tone itself most often doesn't begin on the first letter of a word, but on the first vocal, so fitting a note to the bar is most often better than fitting it on the exact moment the word begins in the audio.

I noticed that because it was nearly impossible for me to hit the beginning of notes most of the time, even though my setup has a fairly low amount of lag.
i.e. look at the "peas":

The note begins exactly on 'p', but the tone of the voice jumps in later.

Yep, that's what I noticed when I sang over it.
I guess you made a mistake when adjusting the octaves.
I will go over it again and see if I can find something else.

Btw, the Ctrl+S shortcut in Performous (while playing a song) is a real gem. You can run Pf and the US editor at the same time to easily find pitch mistakes. (Somehow the midi playback in USDX doesn't work.)

#105
This one has some serious timing problems.
And a few pitch mistakes, too.
#106
No, I contacted him and he, like, immediately replied.
So, pretty awesome.

Btw, I finished a beta version for BUCK and EFNW, though there is still some work to be done.
Some timings aren't a hundred percent exact (wow, that rap totally kicked my ass) and the material basically is the youtube 1080p vid, where the sound is only decent.

Some cool artwork is still needed, too, especially for a background pic.
#107
Ah, ok. Mouse is overrated anyway.
Seriously.
#108
I'm on it.

You know the feeling when you get a personal message from someone like ask-theCrusaders (JanAnimations)? I do. ;D

Renard, if we are fast we could get this to BUCK or even EFNW. Starting right now.

Pitch is awefully off in most places. I can correct it, if you want.
But I don't know, who wants to sing Rainbow Factory anyway? It's not hard and most of it is instrumental.

No feedback from Galacon?
Then have one: IT WAS AWESOME!

And, btw, the reason I joined the project.  :D
#111
Now it's really done.
As I said, cover and background image are still missing.
#112
Hm, now that I looked at your timing corrections, I have to say you miscorrected some of them (German: ,,verschlimmbessert"). Since it's a very flowing song some notes aren't quite on beat, but you want to sing them as the choir does.

The editor you use works like a charm, so thank you very much for that.
One thing: You said the editor from the tutorial is very outdated, but the 1.1 one lacks a lot of features I've seen there. Which one do you use?

Ah, and one last thing: The author tags I put in are gone. Like you said, it's very nice to be credited for the work you do. Or is there another way you manage these?

You lucky fox.
It's basically a big party.

Ah, well, livestream will have to suffice. Only some hours left.
#114
Wow, it looks like the Ultrastar Editor is way better than Composer. I'll give it a try.
#115
And done.

Man, that editor. Really needs a simple quantization, that would make things A LOT easier.
The program screwed up some note transitions, but that shouldn't be to big an influence.

Video is in, only thing missing is a background image and a cover.

I have one problem though: I forgot to manually change the bpm in the txt-file in the beginning (actually I didn't know you have to do this) and now the song is at 180bpm instead of 120. If someone knows how to fix that without asynching everything I would be really glad.

Only some hard songs left. Oh, and I noticed some rather big melodical mistakes in finished songs.
#116
On it.

Wow, Composer needs a serious workflow overhaul.
What about time-stretching and bpm integration, or even more basic: space as shortcut for play?!

Thanks for the kind words.

Smilley, you should forgive them for this. They really had a sh*tload of work on the whole event and maybe just forgot about mentioning you. Nearly half their equipment was malfunctioning and they had real big trouble to keep most of the stuff running.
Ah, well, I guess your work will get lots of attention at EFNW this weekend, which is a tiny-teeny bit bigger than Galacon.  ;)

Welcome! / Well hello

Since there is no introduction subforum or thread, I'm going to post this here.

I first saw Performous on Galacon this weekend and I thought: "Wow, this is the perfect software to finally learn how to hit the pitch correctly".
When I went to the site one hour ago, my jaw dropped when I saw it's open source and Linux native.
Then I searched for MLP karaoke files (they had nearly all of them at Galacon) and found this.

Count me in.

I'm deep into brony music (actually wanting to start producing myself for quite a while now) and this is exactly my thing.

Let's get to it.
Where can I start?
