<-- background

<--- cover

[â–ºLyrics:]
[Principal Cinch]

I realize that you've always been an outcast
It's not everyone at school who likes to think
To find a student that's like you
I've had one or maybe two
But the good ones disappear before I blink

[Students]

(Oh, wuh-oh-wuh, oh
Oh, wuh-oh-wuh)

[Principal Cinch]

Now, I understand you have your reservations (Oh-wuh)
It's hard to have a brain as large as yours (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
But if we don't win these games
Well, I think I've made it plain
What will happen if we have the losing scores!

[Students]

(Oh, wuh-oh-wuh, oh
Oh, wuh-oh-wuh)

Unleash the magic
Unleash the magic
If we lose, then you're to blame (ah, ah-ah-ah)
They all have used it
Maybe abused it (ah-ah-ah)
So then why can't we do the same?

(Oh, wuh-oh-wuh, oh
Oh, wuh-oh-wuh)

[Principal Cinch]

Call it power, call it magic,
If we lose, it will be tragic
More important is the knowledge we'll have lost (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
A chance like this won't come again
You'll regret not giving in
Isn't understanding magic worth the cost?

[Students]

(Oh, wuh-oh-wuh, oh
Oh, wuh-oh-wuh)

Unleash the magic
Unleash the magic
We're not friends here after all
Our only interest
In this business (ah-ah-ah)
Is seeing Canterlot High School fall

(Oh, wuh-oh-wuh, oh
Oh, wuh-oh-wuh)

[Principal Cinch]

What I'm suggesting's very simple
And since it's win-win on all scores
We only want to learn about the
Magic that you have stored

And as for me and all the others
We only want what we deserve
That our school will clinch the win
And my...

[Principal Cinch and students]
...legacy will endure

[Students]

Unleash the magic
Unleash the magic
If we lose, then it's a crime
But we can win it
If you begin it (ah-ah-ah)
It's up to you to not fail this time

[Male students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Female students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Sci-Twi]

Imagine all I'll learn by setting it free

Vice Principal Luna: If both teams are ready...

[Male students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Female students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Sci-Twi]

Now winning these games depends on me

[Male students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Female students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now
And what doors might open if I try to use it

Dean Cadance: ...the last event of the Friendship Games begins...

[Male students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Female students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[Sci-Twi]

But the magic's really what I want to see

Puppy Spike: Twilight, no!!

[Male students]

Unleash the magic, free the magic now

[All]

Unleash the magic, free the magic...
Unleash the magic, free the magic...

[All]

Now!

Smilley

Yeah, the rules were a bit all over the place. I've gathered them together here.
As for this song, I didn't post it yet because I didn't want to rush it. Especially the last part, with Twilight singing over the chorus, will need some extra TLC.

OK, the instrumental and pitch reference tracks are done.

Sorry about the big delays lately.  My chorus has moved into high gear for the holiday season.  I gotta memorize a dozen songs in the next month for our Christmas shows.

Smilley

No biggie. Better late than never. Also, I was just about to start without it, anyway.

Psychic, could you maybe do a pitch reference only for the backing vocals? I can work through most of it with the Instrumental, but it'd help a bunch if I had a version with just the vocalizing backup singers - especially during the "Unleash the magic" refrain that's still in the instrumental - and the "Unleash the magic, free the magic now" chorus at the end.

I'm kinda limited in what I can add or remove to the songs, since I don't have the original mixing tracks.

The closest I could make to a version with just the backup singers would be the actual instrumental track I already made.

Smilley

Quote...since I don't have the original mixing tracks.
Wouldn't that be a blast, though? I know you can't work miracles - though you come pretty close at times -, but I didn't know how many tracks you used for the instrumental. I'll make due with what I have, then.

Yeah, it's rare when I get instrument-separated tracks.  Most commonly, I only have 5.1 audio to work with.  And lately that hasn't been all that great, due to channel crossover issues.

Smilley

Completed the main singing voice. Cinch's lines are actually pretty hard to pin down. Somewhat similar to Starlight Glimmer's or DT's in The Vote. What is it with villians and mixing speech into singing?

After fiddling around with it, I don't think having a backup vocals file/duet for this song works that well. The only thing I regret is I can't put the "Oh-oh-wah-oh-wah" part in the main song file, as it tends to overlap with the preceding segment.

The way I see it, we could have a track dedicated to everything "Ah" and "oh" in the background - and the students' main chorus. This would work until Twilight kicks in (maybe she could replace P. Cinch as the lead singer?); at this point, there are also two backing groups (students, high and low - the low one with Cinch?) which slight overlaps, making it tough to concatenate...

Also, I've edited the file on Owncloud slightly re: timings.

Smilley

I've done the vocals version now. I've also changed a few linebreak timings on the original file to match up with the vocals, in case we do a duet version.
I've kept the vocals on instrumental, so you can see what and why I did.
