Title: Having a little Issue
Post by: chaosmarine125 on January 28, 2014, 07:51:42 PM
Hello i have a little problem or a big problem. When i play MLK everything works fine expect
the singing part probably or it's my mic. I'm going to try to explain to the best of my abilities when i select a song i can sing with it and it scores me but even when i don't sing and the music playing it still scores itself. I took pictures encase my explaining was bad.

Example 1: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=5jvj3r&s=8#.UugJ9RAo4dU
Example 2: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2v9u1rp&s=8#.UugKLRAo4dU
Example 3: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=303bpk7&s=8#.UugKRhAo4dU

Anyway to stop that from happening?

The game probably takes input from Stereo Mix, which is essentially the same as what's coming out of your speakers.

You'll want to go to Tools->Options->Record, set the Soundcard/Input to your microphone, and choose player 1 on channel 1. Something like this (http://i.imgur.com/46zjfzn.png).

The "Speaker" part was just to say that basically, your PC is copying sound that goes out ... in.

Oh how do i fix that because i went to Tools -> Options -> Record and my settings are:
Soundcard: Microphone (High Definition Audio)  -won't allow me to change that
input is set as default and channel 1 is set to 1.

Oh, then the problem's probably that the headset's mic is picking up sound from the headset. (I tried a headset with mic boost up to eleven, and it did exactly that.)

Your record settings are correct, but you'll have to reduce the mic boost and/or increase threshold in the sound options. If that doesn't help enough, lower mic record level in the OS settings.

Edit: Of course, if you're blasting the game at ear-breaking volume, lowering that a bit would be the first step.

I'm not really good with editing Microphone settings main reason i never really had to do it before.

Can you give me instructions and whats the OS Setting?

Don't worry about the OS settings for now; just go to Options→Sound, and set Threshold to 20% and Mic boost to Off. See if that fixes the problem.

Btw, with those settings you might have to sing pretty loud for the game to hear you. Don't worry about that if it happens, I'll tell how to fix that later.

Did that fix the problem, though?

And as for that singing loud thing, try playing the game with lower threshold values. 10 or 15% is usually the best.

Just to add a little data...

On my system I can sometimes get similar results if my OS changes the default recording device to 'Microphone' instead of 'Line-In'.

On most sound cards, both Microphone and Line-In share the same jack.  The microphone setting usually amplifies the audio, and tends to make it hollow sounding.  Over-amplification could definitely cause issues.  I personally set the default to be Line-In, for the clarity of recording.

You may want to check which one your operating system is selecting.
Also note, your sound drivers may also have a selection available for this.

In MLK my microphone (High definition Audio) is the only open i have and I do now know how to change it to "Line-In".

How do i check which operating system is selected?

Um... all the details I gave you were for 'outside' of MLK.

Your operating system would usually be some variety of Windows or Mac OS, depending on the type of computer you own.

If you are using Windows, it would be in the control panel.
Look for an item called 'Sound', or something similar.
Once opened, click the 'Recording' tab at the top.
In there, you can select the default recording device.

If you are using a Mac... someone else will need to help you, since I don't own a working one.

Oh... What if it's already at default device?

I don't know what i did but i fixed it woot :D

The threshold was on 10% all i did was put it to 15% and it fixed the problem... I feel stupid
