Chances are that, if you've been on the internets, you've heard of pastel ponies.This is a fighting game about those.




Developed by the Mane6 team, Fighting is Magic is... a fighting game. Duh. But it's not your average fangame: it has quite a lot of depth, and has its very own visual and gameplay styles. Having tried it, I can only assure you that it is indeed great and very fun to play.

But as of today, I'm truly impressed. Not only the team managed to create a wonderful product with their hard work, they also made it to GameSpot, taking over a part of the videogaming press. That's a remarkable achievement there, and I do want to congratulate them for it. This is awesome.

Edit: they didn't only made it to a random Gamespot article. They actually made it to the front page.

After re-testing out the (hopefully) upcoming Community Pack, there's something blatantly obvious: there are huge volume gaps from one song to another.

The tracks need to be normalized. This might not be such a trivial task - USDX probably doesn't handle ReplayGain, and normalizing is a destructive process. Some songs are really low, others are over-the-top and feature a lot of clipping. The target goal should be - of course - the official songs volume, as CaptainComedy did a clean work on what was available for the first two seasons.


Optional (?) ? the instrumental tracks are also of a lower volume by nature. In the show, lyrics tend to take over the music when it comes to volume. Maybe we should normalize that as well.

Good news everyone! We got the announcement of an announcement announcing that there might be an announcement of someone announcing a random announcement, maybe.

Cutting things short, MLP Season 3 will start airing some time in November. We also know that the season will have 13 episodes, with the first two being two parts of the same story arc. And we know that the music will be awesome - both singing segments (Ingram / Andrews) and incidental background musics (Anderson). They've been working hard on it!

What does this mean to our little karaoke projects? Well, two things:

• More official songs to include in a brand new pack
• Time to sort things out waiting for November!

As some of you may know, I'm currently kinda computer-less and can't do a lot of work right now. Things might get better for me in two weeks, but in the meantime, it also means that a few planned features have been postponed (moving to a new host, revamped download page, releasing song bugfixes "officially", auto-updater, USDX Pony theme, etc).

My idea so far is to plan a "Community Song Pack" release in mid-november, including what's being currently worked on in the Carousel Boutique subforum (thanks to all of you guys!). This should coincide with the MLP S3 premiere, and hopefully will be enough time for me to settle down and ease individual song creations/releases after that. In that mindset, I'm expecting to release S3 songs individually too (and consolidate them when we'll get the all).

Till then, keep being awesome!

? Take a peak in the Song Request forum for some suggestions, or just pick any song you have in mind.
? If you're working on something new, create a new topic in the W.I.P. section. If you picked a song from the suggestions subforum, post in its thread and ask moderators to move it to the W.I.P. section.
? For now, you'll be a bit on your own though. We have no hosting to provide for the files, so you'll have to use Mediafire or any similar site to host the WIP songs. There are plans to improve this situation later on. ;)

Quick post, will rewrite it later on. Two basic ideas:
- Suggesting a song is awesome, but will not guarantee someone will actually work on it / release it in a playable state. Keep it in mind :)
- Please include a Youtube video of the song in the first post if possible, using the button.

Other best practices:
- Copy/Paste the song's lyrics in your post (using either the Quote or Code function of this forum)
- Suggest two pictures: a cover and a static background
- If there's a known / quality PMV for a particular song, link to it (720p video preferred)

Well, it's awesome. Really. We got more than 60 songs in the whole project (including instrumental tracks)!

As of 11 Aug 2012:
- Validated files moved to the "Ready to release" folder; if you now need to make a change to any of them, be sure to notify it, because it will impact the instrumental version
- Instrumental tracks added (no background videos, but you can copy / symlink the existing ones from the vocal tracks) - some have gap issues and need a quick fix
- Fan-made songs not yet validated
