Title: Post yourself singing
Post by: TechnoColt on September 24, 2012, 07:43:32 AM
As I stated previously, your speakers, or even you, may commit suicide after listening to this. Now that I've given you fair warning, I present to you Discord, as sung by TechnoColt. Keep in mind that I'm using a crappy microphone, so I sound (ever so slightly) better in real life. It's not my best performance on this particular song, only 8200 points, but it'll have to do.

http://picosong.com/wD2c/

EDIT: Hmm, it seems that I left like seven seconds of white noise on the end of the file. Also, please do let me know how long you listened to the mp3. I'd like to know just how long it takes before my voice makes somepony's ears bleed. XD

This deserves its own topic. Dat split.
Haven't listen to your file yet though, but will do soon!

Yours isn't bad at all o.o
Do you have a snot or something cuse you can hear that, or is that your normal voice?

Anyways, you can follow the notes very good :D

Thank you very much. :) Yeah, I have bad allergies. /: That noticeable, eh?

I come from a fairly musical family, so I've always had a decent sense of pitch and rhythm. It's funny, I love to sing, but I never really want other people to hear me singing. The internet is different, of course, since I'm anonymous.

@ TechnoColt : Ho, if this could make my speakers commit suicide, I think they would already have turned into zombies a while ago orz. I actually expected something bad but you really can sing ! ?

@ evillander : Even if you're not e-xac-tly following the rhythm at times, it's still a nice cover ! And I think your voice was quite fitting.  :D

I wanted to record a Pinkie song because Pinkie, but I've caught a cold so I can't sing at all  :'(. Here's my recording of Discord from last week, sounding all stupid 12 year old-like  :P : [ ??? (http://picosong.com/wDpx/) ]

By the way, why isn't the instrumental version of Discord (the one I used) in the game ?

@Yocchan Thank you very much for the compliment. I guess I just don't really like my own voice much, haha. You've got a pretty decent voice yourself. Where are you from? I can't place your accent.

@Yocchan Not bad, not bad.
You (or at least your accent) are from eastern Europe, right? Rumania, Poland or similar.

Erm... Okay okay, I'll study harder my English pronunciation -hides under a rock- Actually, I'm from France, ahah. Sorry if it's disappointing x). (And thanks for the compliments ! \o/)
On a side note, evillander, that made me smile because I'm indeed learning Japanese this year. Maybe that's why ?  ::)

Aha, I knew it.
Anyways, good luck with your Japanese, heard it wasn't really that simple...

I don't really know if I have an accent... Probably but then really weird I guess, I don't know... xd

What recording software do you use? I might do Perfect Stallion and Pinkie's Brew. I have a bit of a cold, though, so don't judge me if I cough into the mic. ;)

EDIT: Renamed the thread.

I don't know what the others use...
I just use the default soundrecorder on windows 7 and put it on camtasia and add the song to it and try to let them synchronize together...

EDIT: Hmm, sounds like I clipped a few times while singing... Oh well.

My first thought was: What the hay, is this what I sound like to others?
The second: crummy SingStar mic, distorts as hell. Only a few pitches in Pinkie's Brew, though.

@Yocchan Now that you say it, yes, it's kind of a French accent.

@Smilley: Simple, really. Fire up Audacity, plug in your mic and hit the red round button. ;D
That normally works like a charm.
After recording drag the audio file on the program and adjust it a little bit to be on sync, adjust the volume in relation and you are done.
Oh, before you import the song you should probably normalize your voice with the effect of the same name.
Then export as mp3 or whatever and you're done.

Edit: Whoa, there was a second page... Anyway, I just gonna leave this as a guide for people who don't know how to do it.

I totally suck at Pinkies Brew, after trying it. Kudos to the original singer, I don't know how I could ever think it was badly sung...

Anyways, I took something that could be butchered WAAAAY more and then I did.

>>> DANGER! TOTAL BRAINMELT! (http://picosong.com/wzva) <<<

I've got some excuses, too!
• My nose totally closed after the first few words.
• The mic is soooo bad. Like, sooooo bad! (Good thing Audacity has noise reduction.)
• I sang this by heart.

Ah, whatever. I'm bad. That's all.
And everything that sounds nice is caused by Ponyphonic's awesomeness. Literally.

For comparison, have a recording from our (first) band rehearsal last week (by the time it completely escalated into a certain genre we definitely hadn't planned it to go. Yeah, this is as improvised as it sounds. And no, I was not playing the keys ::) ), which was recorded with much better equipment.

Ah don't regret nothin'! (http://picosong.com/wTsY/)

Sorry to every German gal who actually understands what I sing...

Yeah... Once you sing karaoke for a contest in front of a crowd of hundreds, you tend to not have courage issues anymore.

Now if I could just find a local karaoke venue where fellow bronies go to sing MLP songs, the world will be perfect.

I have to agree with this.  For the few years I've been doing karaoke, the crowds are always supportive.
Heck, sometimes they cheer the loudest when you really butcher the song.   :o

They know it's all about having the courage to stand up for yourself... Wait a sec... That sounds like a friendship report from Fluttershy, doesn't it?

Anyhow, that's a nice rendition of The Moon Rises.  I've not heard it before, but now I like it.

Just what was your score for that?  This leaves me curious.

Anyways, I'm intent on recording a few songs for your (possible) enjoyment, most likely some of the FiW stuff, as well as some of Forest Rain's music.  Man, do I love Forest Rain's songs (and that's not counting that my top 3 scores are all on his songs).  This assumes I can figure out how to record both the speakers and the mic at the same time using Audacity.  It's befuddling me.

I got ~7500, on easy. Also, you can't record both the speakers and mic at the same time without a professional sound card. What I did was start up the recording, before starting the song, and just recording my mic. Then, I cut the beginning part and synced it up to an MP3 of the song itself.

Easy really is pretty lenient then.  I currently average somewhere around 8550 on Easy, and that really isn't too bad considering my equipment.

As it is, I may just livestream some of it and post links to the recorded streams.  It'll be easier to do, and you get to see what's hitting and missing the mark as well as hear my (less than) wonderful voice.  Of course I'll need a new mic first.  Mine is just a step away from becoming silent forever.

I just wanted to tell you I was wrong before, and I'm not too proud to admit it. 9990 is not the top score, because this is:

What difficulty was that?  I can guarantee you one thing: I can't beat that.

Edit: I can read, really.  I can read that it says "Easy".  I just might not notice it at first glance.

I record the songs by playing them with Audacity, so I don't know what my score for that attempt would've been, but my best is 9850 on Easy.

Look at post #50. OK, both the Welcome Song and Hop Skip and Jump are short songs.
As for how: practice. And it helps that I know the ins and outs of each song, spending an average of 2 hours on them.
There are other, non-pony songs which I didn't make that I have extremely high scores on. I have over 9900 for both Tears For Fears - Mad World and Meat Loaf - I would do anything for love on Easy.
Also, I'm a maximalist. I don't post songs until I can score at least 9500 points. That way, I know it can't be too far off.

I don't give attention to the notes while I'm singing because I don't want to sing to only hit the notes^^
I sing with feelings xD

(But I try to become more than 9k Points on every song I know anyway :P)

Yeah, I know the feeling.

Personally, when learning the song I go for score.
Once I'm sure I have got all the notes down, then I start adding vocal depth to it.

If you can sing with feeling and still hit the notes, I know I've done my job well.
Also, not to sound boastful or anything, but when I hit the high score on the Welcome Song, I wasn't even aiming at the score, I was just casually singing the song. I was honestly surprised when I saw the score screen.

About time to hit this thread. So here, have something awful Aviators' Open Your Eyes (http://picosong.com/PeJ7). Well, it's not in the game (yet?), but it's karaoke nevertheless.

(It actually sounded pretty nice with a choir of three different recordings. Not surprising, since the original vocals are pretty heavily echoed. Or maybe my mistakes were just negating each other.)

Sorry about the fact that I had to play the audio echoed out.
I tried recording both it and my voice separately, but I discovered that my soundcard chipset doesn't like recording from multiple inputs. Also, I had to try many times just to get the damn thing to record.
I hate my laptop sometimes
Title: Re: Post yourself singing
Post by: Smilley on September 29, 2014, 12:17:19 PM
I recommend you use Audacity on its own. Load up the MP3 and record your mic. Sure, you won't have the lyrics or get a score at the end, but once you played a song enough times, neither will matter, really. And it's much easier to match the volume of your voice clip to the song. And you can edit parts where you know you could've done better. I know I'm rarely 100% satisfied with my first recording.

Other than that, don't sell yourself short. Your voice is quite good, you just need a bit of confidence, of energy behind it.
BTW, is that your real name? No reason, just curious.

EDIT: Somehow I couldn't get this song outta my head. Singing it didn't help, mind. So, have some Tricks Up My Sleeve (http://picosong.com/9aEC/).
Title: Re: Post yourself singing
Post by: sleumas2000 on September 29, 2014, 08:43:15 PM
I used Smiley's technique - Messed up on the song, and so chose a different song (UnderpOny - Lunasong) and sang it to MLK using Audacity yo just record my vocals, then I synced it to the MP3 afterwards.
Anyway, here it is.
(And yes, it is my real name)

N.B. Sorry for the random doors opening and closing in the middle - also, sorry for the bit where I turn away from the mic.
I blame dorm-mates.

Not great but... eh...

Oh, and I did it with my eyes closed :P

Here's one that I sang for the very first time on MLK AND did it with my eyes closed

Dang you second part...

Also I got "too low" and "not projecting my voice enough" mixed up at the end part... lol

I don't think I did too bad considering it was my first time to sing the song on MLK... especially since I did it with my eyes closed

Pasting Google Drive link because I don't want the small chance of it getting removed from Youtube and also you can directly download the original version I uploaded... which is nice... I always recompress after recording when I upload to Google Drive to increase efficiency and reduce the file size

So I haven't posted here in a while... it was my first time (I think) to sing this song but I think I did fairly well... I knew the song pretty well... not as well as others but still pretty well

Also this one was my first time to sing it... but I listened to it a lot a few months ago so I knew it pretty well... the audio is in mono because otherwise the mic audio would only be coming out of the left channel and that was quite annoying... so I just made all the audio mono... since the mic audio was mixed in with the desktop audio

Somehow it got switched from 1 channel to 2 channels... and when it does that it makes audio only come out of the left channel *sigh*

I just wanted to tell you I was wrong before, and I'm not too proud to admit it. 9990 is not the top sizegenetics extender review (https://www.virtualpalomarwest.org/sizegenetics-review/) score, because this is:
