This isn't anything related to the game or the MLK songs, but the forum.

Sometimes, it takes very long to load. This is especially bad the first time I open it.

The problem is this URL that gets called:

Especially the first time, it takes over 40 seconds to respond, and during that the tab icon remains spinning etc. In the response headers is also something that says it "expires: Mon, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT" which is not useful at all.
It (eventually) returns a 1x1 gif.

Googling around suggests it's some kind of thing that makes sure the emails get sent, but I'm not sure why it takes over 40 seconds. Not sure if it's easy to fix or can be fixed at all (don't bother looking into this more than a few minutes) but if it's something easy like the mail queue being full of failed email to dead email addresses, just clear it and edit those accounts to never get an email or something.

This song is too difficult for me (to code). I got until about 10% of timing the notes, but even those are probably off by some margin because of the magic of speaker delay. It's just not fun to work on the insane amount of really short notes, when O(speaker delay) > O(length of note)

NB: the above link is NOT a finished song! At least the following issues still remain:
- There's a lot of very short notes in this song (for example: 'the' or 'of'). General pitch checking aside, check these especially.
- Feel free to replace the artwork. The cropped background is currently in a non-optimal resolution.
- Check extract.sh if you need the AC-3 audio to make an instrumental version or something, but beware of syncing issues (the wav-hack is in there for a reason).
- You will probably want to recode the video (or just extract it yourself from the original and encode that)

This was a really fun song to work on, and I learned many things from it.

Some remarks:
- Check the pitches
- Some notes might need to be split, joined together,  or have their beginnings/ends tweaked
- I got ~9250 on a Medium test run, so either I made the song too easy or there's just no point in me optimizing it any further

- One of Spike's lines is now deleted completely (it was the rap line anyway)
- Spike's other line is now normal again
- Some linebreaks at the end were removed ("Das Wetter, das Essen" and "Die Musik und die Farben")
- More pitches adjusted, I'm really not sure on the second to last syllable (the "Mo" in "Harmonie") and anytime "ge" is sung.

At least I can get around 8500 on Medium without really trying now, any further tweaks will probably be overoptimization on my part.

Personally I just use a regular installation of Ultrastar and some scripts to get the stuff.

Just put the script in .ultrastardx and it _should_ work. Or just use Renard's links, it's a one-time operation anyway.

For the newer updates I've written a small Python script, again put it in .ultrastardx, change the WORK_DIR variable and run it, it will take care of the rest. I run it regularly (it wil not redownload what has already been downloaded, just don't ever remove the mlkbeta.cache file).

I might as well claim this one as I'm pretty far into it anyway. It'll probably be 'done' this weekend. 'Done' being me getting 8500-9000 on Medium because I don't get more than 2500 on Hard on any song.

I am not happy with how this song is at the moment. During working on another German song (Er andert sich) the influence of the correct pitch (and also how to get/approximate it) became much more apparent to me, and ~7500 points on Medium is just not acceptable for me. Most of those points come from Rainbow, Twilight and chorus parts.

(this and the German Open Up Your Eyes were also my first test songs)

If no work has been done on it by others in the meantime I'll post a new version during the weekend.

Almost finished, just be sure to check/adjust the following:
- Check the pitch of the "Ge" note every time they sing "Gemeinsam". In the English version that is just "We" (one syllable), but in the German version it's two and the pitch of "Ge" appears to be lower one time and then the same the other times, but I'm not sure.
- I've changed Spike's first note to rap (where he's tasting the gem) because Rarity is slightly 'behind' compared to the English version, causing their lines to be too close (2506 in the file).
- In general some lines are now super close together, sometimes only 1 or 2 beats apart, or even 0 in the case of "Das Wetter -- Das Essen". Some linebreaks might want to be removed or first notes changed to rap, but I've kept in as much as possible for now.

I need some help in finishing this song:
- someone should look at the pitches, at least at "Am Anfang waren" and anytime "suße Fantasie" occurs. I haven't changed any pitches from the English version, but I usually fail these parts on that version as well
- someone that really knows German should look at the syllables and check if they're split correctly
but other than that, I think it's certainly playable at this point.

I plan to do other German songs as well (at least Gemeinsam wird's gelingen, Er ändert sich and (K)eine Kleinigkeit), but only if this sort of .txt is close enough that it can be finished without too much effort. If it's not of good enough quality for the MLK team, then please do tell me on which specific area(s) to improve. Otherwise, expect more German songs in the future.

So, this is more me figuring out if I have my timings right, because I think it sounded OK in an editor, but it's hard for me to tell because that's on a different computer I run MLK from and the audio/screen delays are possibly just not the same.

I essentially took the existing version (notes.txt), cut out the few paragraphs of text that are actually not in the animation version, then tried my best at retiming them. Compared to the original, the second part starts at the word "soon" (it's only in there once). So at most, you'll have two blocks to retime (should only be a couple of milliseconds).

A 6:46 song, while good, gets really old if it's played like 7 times a day, this version is 'only' 6 minutes or so, so you have some variety.

NB: I took the audio from the video file itself, but I think there's some light sound effects in there. It's probably possible to make a _much_ higher audio version by taking the audio of the existing MLK song (the full song) and cutting that up (worst-case you only have to use the part where the cut is from the video, and everything else from the full song). Shouldn't be too hard with one of those fancy editors that show a waveform, and you can make an instrumental one as well. I just don't have the time for it right now (or this entire month, really).

Ignore my shitty cover.png and background.png, I'm sure someone can do a better job. Video was taken from youtube back when they had a way less shitty version than they have now, I just cut some parts off it but no re-encoding whatsoever.
