Issues and bug reports / Re: Microphone not working
July 10, 2014, 04:04:05 AM
If the mic works in other programs, it should work in the game just as fine. Check that the microphone is selected correctly: http://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/forum/index.php/topic,682.msg2959.html#msg2959

After that, you might have to increase sensitivity by increasing the mic volume and tinkering with mic boost and threshold in the sound settings.

You gotta shaaaaaaare~ / Re: Post yourself singing

About time to hit this thread. So here, have something awful Aviators' Open Your Eyes. Well, it's not in the game (yet?), but it's karaoke nevertheless.

(It actually sounded pretty nice with a choir of three different recordings. Not surprising, since the original vocals are pretty heavily echoed. Or maybe my mistakes were just negating each other.)

Hello. I actually have a question as this has been bothering me and I don't know what to make of it. Is there some kind of cap on the displayable pitch with the record section of the options? Like, no matter what kind of sound I fed into my mic, it always capped off at F#4 but never goes into 5 or above. Now... If it was just my voice that I tested, then I would probably understand, but even my whistling and my mom's singing seemed to hit the same cap. At this point, I'm pretty sure that there is either some kind of pitch cap on the game or a pitch cap on my mic.
When trying to play the game with the piano, I did find out that the pitch is limited - it should cover any normal vocal range, unless you're singing Der Hölle Rache or something. Ultrastar recognizes pitches correctly from C2 to B5 (or C to b'', if you will). You're right about the game never showing the fifth octave -  it always shows (note)4 instead of (note)5, but the pitches are correct up to B5.

Can you delete ultrastardx.exe in the installation folder? If not, do what Renard said; check from the MyLittleKaraoke folder's properties that admin has full rights.

(This should give the same information as overwriting the file, but it's easier. Also, it tells exactly where the updater fails (copying or deleting): if the patcher's code is similar to that of AC2, it doesn't check if the old file was removed successfully.)

By the way, after the updater fails, what's the MD5 of ultrastardx.exe?
#25
Which Windows version are you using? Win8 and 7 can be strict about writing stuff into program files, especially if you're not on an admin account.

Try running the updater as an administrator. You'll have to open the disc contents - possibly from My Computer to see the files - and find mylittlekaraoke.exe. Here's an image that may or may not be helpful.

(I tend to just assume that people use Windows. note to self: stop doing that)

Try running the "Windows Uninstallation Patch" from http://www.mylittlekaraoke.com/index.php?pages/Extras. If your ultrastar.exe is read-only for some reason, that patch would fix it.

Also, it may seem obvious, but just to cover all the bases: make sure the game isn't open when installing.

This is probably one of the more often played songs, so I figured I could spruce it up a bit. Biggest changes are fixing the pitches, which were all one semitone off, and changing the mp3 from the radio edit to the original version. This new file is also of higher quality and has an instrumental.

Full changes:
  • Cover has been resized to 300x300
  • A less distracting, textless background has been constructed from vectors
  • song.mp3 was the radio edit and has been replaced with the original version
  • A matching instrumental.mp3 has been added
  • Video has been re-rendered to:
    • cut silence from the start,
    • add the background image to the end of the video, and
    • encode at higher quality (as original video was a little choppy)
  • All pitches were off by a semitone, this has been corrected
  • Pitches, positions, line breaks have been checked
  • The amount of golden notes has been reduced significantly
So the pitches are wrong, because they're from the original version, which is a semitone lower. Also, needs a ton of breaks between notes. I'll do a fix as soon as ownCloud returns to normal.
Also, this is the 2:25 long radio edit. Should this be redone with the original (3:15, i.e. the instrumental part is a minute longer)? That'd allow for an instrumental version.

On a more general note, maybe I should've started checking old songs long before the release. Some are just impossible to sing well, and that's pretty annoying. Oh well, maybe I won't make any new songs until the released ones are all good, it's not like there are hundreds of them...
New release starts here (AC2) - Renard

Sombra's Door: Background file extension is wrong. Somehow. I could swear the last time I played it the background was fine.

Princess of the Night: Needs #VIDEOGAP:0.87 to match the updated mp3. Also "freight"→"fright" on line 2.

Quick question; does the game flicker if you run it windowed (fullscreen off)?

I wouldn't go as far as downgrading to Vista. The latest driver from Asus' website is 8.12 for Vista, but right now you have version 8.561, which I'm guessing is from Windows Update. Afaik, the current version could even be win7-compatible.

I'm on a phone so I'll keep this short. Just a quick warning that you probably shouldn't install vista right away.

It's in the description of this video which was posted by the creator of Rainbow Dash Presents.
You'd be surprised how often there are mistakes in the lyrics given by artists. Anything from missing words to additional lines, really.

Anyways, I'd lean towards "unfurl". It's hard to hear, because the singer's accent has a nearly silent "f" throughout the song. (And frankly, I can't stand that voice.)
By the way, "plans unfurl" is a much more common expression than "plans uncurl".

SlyphStorm's cover definitely uses "unfurl", though. (And frankly, it has a much nicer voice.)

No such thing as a stupid question! Well, except the ones that can be answered with rtfm or lmgtfy...

Short answer: Download here
Long answer: Huh, the download page with individual song packs has vanished at some point. Although this song wouldn't be there anyways, being still unreleased (that's why you'll notice the song has no cover). I think I've generally told people asking for unreleased songs to go poke Renard about getting a ownCloud read-only account.

Luna's lines were awesomesauce. I watched the episode with maybe 60 people, and the crowd positively erupted when Best Princess started singing.

Actually there was an earlier thread specifically for the other song, so you can just trash this thread ;)

Done. 'twas pretty hard to pitch, a lot of the tones were kinda ambiguous.

I want to drain you of your colors
You are the apple of my eye
I'm going to stalk you into darkness
Make you run away, make you run afraid of the night

I'm not the friend you once knew
search your heart you know it's true
there's no time to say goodbye
this will be the end of your life

I've gone batty,
Lunatic under the moon
I've gone batty,
Once I sink my teeth in it'll happen to you!

How red and juicy you are to me
As if you're waiting for my bite
My insanity has a flavor
Heavenly and sweet, nectar of my terrible life

I'm not the friend you once knew
search your heart you know it's true
there's no time to say goodbye
this will be the end of your life

I've gone batty,
Lunatic under the moon
I've gone batty,
Once I sink my teeth in it'll happen to you!

(I want to drain you of your colors)
(You are the apple of my eye)
(I'm going to stalk you into darkness)
(Make you run away, make you run afraid of the night)

You thought you were rid of me
a mistake as you will see
I'll just wait for one more time
for my darkest thirst to arrive!

I've gone batty,
Lunatic under the moon
I've gone batty,
Once I sink my teeth in it'll happen to you!

(Once I sink my teeth in it'll happen to you)

Working on dBPony's song

Edit: post should be at least readably clear now

Wow, catchy.

Twitter says "High School Great".

Consider it done. I'm not sure if it's the best way to handle this song, but I made two versions, (as Discord)/(as Screwball), and instrumentals for both. Kinda redundant as the files are mostly the same, but that's the disadvantage of not having the duet mode.

Art credit: cover.png is from the Bandcamp page. cover2.png is by ninetail-fox.
A duet version is in owncloud/03 Limbo/01 Duets.

EDIT: added sources for cover images

Okay then :) But am I missing something here? I can't see any changes in the song files.
