Hm, let's correct it to tomorrow, Monday or Tuesday...

I'm actually setting something like that up as we speak for another project of mine.

The idea behind this (since I only own a simple webhosting contract with a simple webspace):
Submit form -> sends mail To:info@... with email of submitter in CC: (he receives it, too).
info@... has a simple mail forward to all people on the list.
People on the list hit "reply to all" and send their answer. This way the answer is sent  TO:info@... and the original person as CC:.
Everyone on the list receives the answer, too, because the info@ distributes it, too.
If you forget to reply to all, the answer will only distributed to the list.

This way everyone always knows whether the question is already dealt with, even if someone forgets the "reply to all"

I hope this makes sense.

About shortening: You know that there is a #END-tag, right?

About the files: Jan uploaded the original files to my webspace, so we got everything in the highest quality possible. We should resample from there.

Actually, I shouldn't post these in a public thread. You'll get them via mail.

I'm going to look through all the songs the next days. If I find the time, that is.
There is still a lot of work to be done on the originals, they need to be absolutely perfect and I know even from a slow and short song like Gravity that 2/3 of the time go into making it perfect. You know the 80/20 rule? That's that.
#85
You can disable videos, too.

Be sure to configure it, though (unlike USDX it is configurable):
In the song Ctrl+F1,F2 until the notes hit the bar at the right time (I use the freestyle parts in AotD for this).
Press Ctrl+S, then hold your mic to the speakers and press Ctrl+F3,F4 until the syth'd notes are in sync with the shown notes.
I still don't know what Ctrl+F5,F6 are for, I guess to sync the video with the song or something.

I'm ok if you change that short we back. I don't think it should be a freestyle note, though, since it surely has a pitch intended by Daniel Ingram.

And now for something completely different:

I want to improve my skills in this humble art we all are practicing here, so I tried a slow and hard song (mostly pitchwise, with some hard timings).

I hope at least one of you knows the Anime "Wolf's Rain". If you haven't seen it, go watch it now.
Anyway, the song is beautiful and a little depressing but definitely worth learning.

Yes, good idea.

Now we only need someone who can actually make some ASCII art and put it in an .nfo. ;)

That makes BPM usually irrelevant to a song (when timing its lyrics). The only thing that matters is to have a beat, whatever it is, as long as it allows for enough granularity.

I agree with you on that, but only in powers of two of the original bpm.
With 370bpm it would have been a complete and utter mess to beat-match that song (you don't see that in Composer, missing quantization is the main reason I use USDX).

@Renard: I guess I searched for a way to scroll and tried all meta-keys. Lucky me. That's one of the reasons I preferably use Pf for checking the songs in realtime. What I hate though are the big fat freestyle marks.

@Smilley:
It's a shame that Performous doesn't work on your PC because it perfectly completes USDX when building songs.

"We shared ...": This is debatable, but when I sing the note's always exactly on that note.
"... best Friend": The change is clearly from the background voice.

I think the videos line should be removed, we are not a legal source and that can be a problem later.

Well, this is the thought behind it.
Since we are not the legal owner, we have to give credits to the guys who am (be it Hasbro or not).
Also I think you are thinking a little short here. There are non-official videos in here, too. Ask-TheCrusaders definitely wrote me that he wants to be credited. ;)

Weeeeell, if Hasbro really likes this they may come back to us for something official...
Am I not allowed to dream?
#92
It's not really about the points. Start up performous where you get to see your voice in realtime, sing it without looking at the screen and then Scroll back with Ctrl+Arrows.
If you sang everything like in the song, you should have hit the beginning of each note.

Yes, nfo sounds way better.

Did I forget something?

This is so amazing.

If they like it enough, maybe we can bring them to give us the original instrumentals!

I don't know if this really fits in here, since it's less of a bug and more of a discussion/proposal.

Since we want to distribute the songs as single downloads (I guess) aside from the complete package and since third party distribution lies in the nature of things (it's the internet, ya know?) I'd propose to have a credits.txt in every song folder.

My first draft:

MY LITTLE PONY: SINGING IS MAGIC is a collaborative effort to bring ponies to karaoke. This product is not endorsed by Hasbro, or any of its subsidiaries; consider it a fan tribute and support the show by buying official merch. No ponies were harmed in the making of this disc. To the disappointment of Lyra Heartstring, humans did suffer a bit instead, mostly from a few sleepless nights. None exploded twice. Ponies are good and you should feel good. Some fan-made songs may or may not contain plot. The square root of 546 is 23.36664289109. You shouldn't pay a single bit to be able to play this, but beware of your immediate neigh-bours if your scores are low despite you singing as loud as you can, for they might frown at you.
Keep being awesome.

And yeah, I copied a whole lot from that coverart of yours, Renard. But such a funny text needs its tributes. ;)

Hi SlitheringBrony!

I guess I should comment here, too, after already creating two karaoke files for this thing and correcting one. ;)

Will there be an error in USDX or Performous if I don't do it?
#98
So I have to check every beat manually with USDX?
And how do I see if the lines are broken in the player?

Welcome! / Re: Setting up UltraStar Deluxe

Why take the files to the program when the program can come to the files?

Fire up the config.ini (Windows: Program folder I think, Linux: ~/.ultrastardx/config.ini) and edit the [Directories] part. Example:

[Directories]
SongDir1=/home/user/Musik/Karaoke/
SongDir2=/home/user/Dokumente/Dropbox/Karaoke/

You can add as many dirs as you like.
That's it.

The General Ressources Chest / My workflow

1. Open up UltraStar Creator. (http://sourceforge.net/projects/usc/)
2. Fill in the tags.
3. Insert lyrics and split into syllables (with '+', one for every pitch change, if there aren't enough syllables use '~')
4. Confirm bpm with a tapping tool. (The program WILL make mistakes, I use this: http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm)
5. Tap that thing. (If to fast set speed to 50–75%, sounds funny but works like a charm (except for crazy fast rap).) This will save you a lot of work, so if you where out of tempo better try again.
6. Set the basic pitch to the one that appears most often. (saves work later)
6. Open up in USDX, fine-tune GAP if necessary, double-check bpm at the end of song. (could be frustrating otherwise)
7. Beat match.
8. Pitch. (You can use a piano and/or the Practice option in Performous.)
9. Check in Performous with Ctrl+S, very easy to notice timing and pitch mistakes.
10. Singing test.
11. If it's very off, pause Performous before the song ends and use Ctrl+arrow keys to go forward/backward.
12. Correct the mistakes you see visually in Performous (your voice pitch), switching between Pf and USDX. I love my workspaces on Linux so much, on Windows you have to alt-tab. Tip: Use a lightweight desktop, like Gnome 2 w/o effects or KDE.

That's the best workflow I figured out yet and I thought I'd share it with you. Any advice?
